UNILVER’S ANNEMARIEKE DE HAAN AND HAP SENG PLANTATIONS & DRB-HICOM ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES AMONG OTHERS HONORED AT EUROPA AWARDS FOR SUSTAINABILITY 2019

The Europa Awards gala dinner and award ceremony is a high-profile event attended by approximately 500 participating guests, ranging from C-level professionals, ambassadors, trade counselors and government officials. Europa Awards for Sustainability is a EUMCCI flagship program which aims to identify, qualify and promote business excellence in Malaysia from companies that have demonstrated extraordinary performance in the field of sustainability. The program is developed for the long-term benefit of Malaysian society and economy and in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and EU sustainable development values. This year, they awarded six organizations and one individual for their excellent social, environmental and governance contributions to Malaysia at the Europa Awards for Sustainability 2019.

The awards were presented to winners during a Gala dinner and Award presentation ceremony, witnessed by the Minister of Primary Industries Malaysia, Teresa Kok, EU Ambassador and Head of EU Delegation to Malaysia, Maria Castillo Fernandez and UN Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam Stefan Priesner. Oliver Roche, acting deputy chairman of EUMCCI said, “EUMCCI is delighted to see such strong support for the Awards from the business community as well as from supporting organizations. This reflects the growing awareness of the importance of sustainability for businesses and society at large.” Roberto Benetello, chief executive officer of EUMCCI, added: “We hope that the Europa Awards can continue to be the platform to promote and amplify Malaysia’s commitment to sustainable development.

This year’s winners were evaluated from close to 150 nominations, from approximately 100 local and international businesses throughout Malaysia. This year’s Europa Awards is supported and sponsored by different stakeholders, including United Nations Malaysia, WWF Malaysia, Matrade, EU bilateral chambers and business councils, International SOS, BNP Paribas Malaysia Berhad, BMW Group Malaysia, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, BNP Paribas Asset Management, Carlsberg Malaysia, RemyCointreau and Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
