MALAYSIA RETAIL CHAIN ASSOCIATION MOVES FORWARD IN THE RETAIL INDUSTRY IN CELEBRATION OF THE YEAR OF FERTILITY

Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) celebrated Chinese New Year 2020 with a grand banquet at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, which was graced by Guest of Honor, Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, Executive Chairman of Top Glove Corporation Berhad. With the theme of ‘Dazzling’, the banquet was attended by over 850 members and invited guests dressed in colorful and vibrant clothing hailing from the retail chain industry, who jointly ushered in the Year of the Rat.

While many events in Kuala Lumpur cancelled due to the concerns surrounding the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus. MRCA, its retail-chain and franchise industry players and guests turned up in force and support to showcase their strength in overcoming global challenges, while practicing strict & cautious guidelines, recommended by the Ministry of Health (MoH). 2,000 pairs of gloves were provided to guests, courtesy of Top Glove Corporation Berhad, while temperatures were taken at all entrances as a precautionary health scan.

“Despite economic and global challenges, it is good to see the Malaysian Retail Chain Industry resilient to these effects. With the changes of political tides, global developments, advancement of technological adoptions, etc., it is crucial for retailers to be aggressive and stay ahead of the market in order to be successful while achieving 100% customer satisfaction. Evolution of businesses according to the times is the greatest strategy towards becoming a future-proof business,” said Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, Executive Chairman of Top Glove Corporation Berhad.

During this fun filled event, several exciting activities were held including MRCA Young Inspirational Star Award, MRCA International Exponential Growth Award and MRCA Foundation Fundraising. The MRCA Young Inspirational Star Award was presented to 12 awardees. Recipients are MRCA members of 40 years and below. The awardees were none other than Boat Noodle, Chatime Malaysia, Fitline, Funnow, House of Kashkha, Big Pharmacy Healthcare, Loob Holding, MK Weddiing, One Auto Marketing, Orion Project Management, Woodpeckers Group, and Wynkids.

Meanwhile, the MRCA International Exponential Growth Award was awarded to MRCA members that have successfully ventured overseas. The 13 awardees were Bonia Corporation, City Coin Laundry, Clara International Beauty Group, Cleanpro Express, Eu Yang Sang, Gintell, Loob Holding, MarryBrown, Mr. D.I.Y. Trading, Nelson’s Franchise, Pathalogy & Clinical Laboratory, Parkson Corporation and Secreat Recipe Cakes & Café.

Datuk Seri Garry Chua, President of MRCA, said, “We are extremely proud of our members’ achievements locally and internationally and we will continuously strive to support all of our members to reach their full business potential. With the recent global disruption, we are still confident with the outlook for the Malaysian Retail Chain Industry in the year 2020 with the Raya celebration, school holidays and most importantly the Visit Asia Truly Malaysia 2020 campaign. MRCA’s Chinese New Year event will not be complete without the mention of the association’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in charity. Through the MRCA Foundation Fundraising program, MRCA sold a total of 55 art pieces, which were contributed by Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng of Parkson Group where she proudly painted 24 art pieces of seasonal flowers (RM388/pc) and 18 art pieces of roses (RM888/pc). Through these meaningful initiatives, the art pieces were sold at the dinner to raise funds for the MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation. The final segmentwas 3 exclusive calligraphy pieces starting from RM8,888 per piece. Thus, a grand total of over RM52,000 was collected for the MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation.
