The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and Malaysian Documentary Association (MyDocs) have announced the winners of their KL Converge FINAS-MyDocs Pitch 2015, after a day of pitching on 27th August 2015.
This year, a total of 35 documentary proposals were submitted from filmmakers all over Malaysia. 10 of the best were selected to pitch in front of a panel of Commissioning Editors from FINAS, National Geographic Channel, A+E Networks, Discovery Channel, Channel NewsAsia, GoAsean and Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).
The panel has selected 3 winners namely SCM Asia Sdn Bhd for their documentary, ‘Counting Malaysian Tigers’; Dos Fellas Sdn Bhd with ‘Op Fajar’ (Operation Dawn) and Effa Desa with ‘Women on a Mission.’
Winners will be granted ‘green-lane process’ development funds and the Commissioning Editors on the panel have indicated great interest in all three stories. The panel also commended FINAS and MyDocs for their efforts in organising the pitch and they look forward to more high quality documentary ideas from Malaysia in the future.
Speaking at the event, Dato’ Kamil Othman, Director General of FINAS said, “We will discuss with the producers and the broadcasters to plan the way forward for the winners. We would also like to thank all the filmmakers as well as the local and international panelists for their time in participating in KL Converge! 2015.”
Those who were not selected are invited to submit their pitches to the Content Malaysia Pitching Centre (www.pitchingcentre.com.my) for other possible funding opportunities.
