Asean Film Industry’s Big Shots Unite at FINAS Networking Reception

The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) hosted a Networking Cocktail Reception – in conjunction with KL Converge! 2015 Asean Film Screenings – at Impiana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 28th August 2015.

The objectives of the reception were to bring together Asean film directors, actors and producers to get to know each other and learn the current industry’s trend in each country. During the event, Dato’ Kamil Othman, Director General of FINAS spoke about the importance of commercial exchange between Asean countries.

He added, “We need to strengthen the ties between our countries’ film industries while encouraging the sharing of knowledge and ideas as well as driving economic growth through film production. It will also enrich our respective cultural understanding, making export ready contents easier to develop and boost the film industry respectively.”

Among the industry’s big shots in attendance were Dato’ Freddie Fernandez; Ahmad Izham Omar, CEO of Media Prima; Nik Amir Mustapha, director of Terbaik Dari Langit – second most nominated film at FFM 27; Siti Kamaluddin, director of Yasmine – Brunei’s first feature film; Hanung Bramantyo, director of Soekarno; and many more.

KL Converge! 2015 Asean Film Screenings, which run on 27th to 29th August 2015 at TGV, KLCC and GSC, Pavilion – showcase the best and eclectic works of Asean film directors.
