The first edition of the Southeast Asian Film Financing (SAFF) Project Market, has selected its highly anticipated inaugural line-up of 10 feature-length projects in development, including two upcoming Malaysian films, A Small Place by Daoyu Pictures and HomeGreen Films, as well as One Two Jaga by Pixel Play Productions. SAFF Project Market is a new feature of ScreenSingapore which will be held in co-location with Asia TV Forum and Market at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre, from 1st to 4th December 2015.
From an extensive and highly promising submission pool of 148 projects from 23 countries worldwide, the initiative’s panel narrowed it down to 10 projects apt for co-production and commercialisation during the Project Market. The diverse selection of projects includes feature-length documentaries and animation projects, as well as live-action fiction projects from established and budding filmmakers from the region. The selected projects will then be matched with and introduced to media financiers, distributors, programmers, and notable co-producers globally, where outstanding projects will stand a chance to win incredible prizes.
Justin Deimen, Executive Director of SAAVA reiterated, “There is a terrific sense of wonder with these projects and its participant pool as the international decision-makers are looking forward to what these filmmakers are bringing to the global market place. As part of a larger media financing focus at ScreenSingapore for the next few years, the SAAVA will look ahead not just at getting these projects into production, but also to train this first generation of SAFF participants into looking at co-producing and leveraging regional frameworks to get their future projects made as well.”
The SAFF Project Market will be organised by the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA), Reed Exhibitions (RX), and the Ties That Bind (TTB) co-production workshop that links 10 other previously chosen projects from Europe and Asia into the SAFF Project Market. This year’s projects derive from Singapore, Malaysia, France, Bhutan, Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
