Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah, Secretary General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance officiated the ASEAN Brand Creative (ABC) Licensing 2015 today as part of 1 ASEAN Entrepreneurships Summit 2015 (1AES) at the Malaysia Design Development Centre (DDEC).
ABC Licensing 2015 aims to offer an ideal platform for licensing agencies, merchants, retailers, entrepreneurs, as well as corporate and consumer brands the best opportunity to engage and explore Malaysian and regional franchises, brands, and licensing. In addition, the event showcases more than 20 brands and IPs to attract local and foreign buyers with the hope to expand their brands further.
“I applauded ABC Licensing initiative as with the ASEAN Chairmanship, I believe this is the best time for us to bring together all of ASEAN brands in one place, as the event aims to be the platform to penetrate the global market,” said Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar.
Apart from the business prospects, the ABC Licensing 2015 also offers the opportunities for new and established entrepreneurs to capitalise on their creativity at ‘The Big FAT Pitch’ competition on 19th November 2015. The competition seeks creative content ideas among students and professionals alike that can extend to becoming the next big thing in licensing and merchandising. Participants will present their ideas in front of professional jury from the industry and stand a chance to win RM10,000 as a grand prize.
Besides the competition, highlights of the ABC Licensing 2015 also include conferences with more than 20 high-profile speakers from various international brands and many sectors in the licensing industry such as Tani Wong, Managing Director of Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) Asia; Haji Burhanuddin Md Radzi, Managing Director of Les’ Copaque Production; Philip Whittaker, Group Chief Marketing Officer Themed Attractions Resorts and Hotels; Ken Chin, Chief Digital Innovation Officer of Leo Burnett; Sam Lee, Managing Director of Ocon Inc. (Korea); Benoit Runel, Managing Director of Zodiak Kids (France); Ms. Melissa Tinker, Vice President of Cartoon Network Asia; among many others.
ABC Licensing 2015 is officially hosted and organised by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) Malaysia, held in concurrent with 1 ASEAN Entrepreneur Summit (1AES) 2015, in association with their strategic partners: Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), MyCreative Ventures, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), and New Entrepreneurs Foundation (myNEF) to create licensing opportunities for diverse industry partners in ASEAN.
