HYPPTV Unveils Malaysia's First Local Film Maker Reality Show

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) via its award-winning IPTV service, HyppTV today officially unveiled  a new reality TV contest called ‘I Want To Be A Filmmaker’ in search for a young talent who is ambitious enough to earn a study scholarship from Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM) worth RM100,000. The winner of this contest will also be enrolled into the Bachelor in Cinematic Arts programme in Multimedia University (MMU) for a period of three (3) years at its Nusajaya Campus, Johor.

The programme was officially launched by Emily Wee, Vice President, Business and Media Operation, New Media, TM, together with Major (H) David Teo, Chief Executive Officer, Metrowealth International Group (MIG) and Dato' Sharif Zaimi Abu Hashim, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM).

Produced by Mangkin Prestij Sdn Bhd exclusively for HyppTV on its local channel HyppInspirasi HD Channel 111, ‘I Want To Be A Filmmaker’ will be hosted by Julia Farhana Marin together with Hafizz Bahari and will feature two (2) permanent jury members; Major (H) David Teo and Raja Azmi, producer and author.

Commenting on the launch, Emily said, “We are more than happy to unveil ‘I Want to Be a Filmmaker’, which marks the  first programme produced exclusively for HyppTV via our collaboration with Mangkin Prestij Sdn Bhd and YTM to discover and nurture an aspiring, young and talented local film maker. This latest programme reflects our commitment and support towards development of local content be it in music, such as our recently launched singing reality TV show “Rockers” on HyppSensasi HD, but also in films such as this programme, which facilitates in creating a competitive yet healthy local entertainment industry. We are indeed very excited to be a part of these young and talented film makers’ journey and offer them a lifetime opportunity of a RM100,000 study scholarship award under YTM. With a panel of juries comprising well-known film producers such as Major (H) David Teo and Raja Azmi, it brings undoubted quality to the programme while the contestants of the show will gain valuable knowledge in the art and business of film making from these industry experts.”

Meanwhile, Major (H) David Teo said, “‘I Want To Be A Filmmaker’ is a platform to discover young new talents who will be the face of Malaysia's entertainment industry. All contestants have shown excellent capability and they are able to adapt and embrace the actual working environment of the broadcasting scene. The collaboration with YTM and MMU has given us great support in the ‘I Want to Be a Filmmaker’ project. During the launch, the 12 contestants consisting of nine (9) male and three (3) female participants who were pre-selected from an audition session held earlier were introduced for the first time. The contestants are;

The audition was held earlier in August by Mangkin Prestij Sdn Bhd which called upon teenagers with the age between 18 until 22 years old who have a minimum education background of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Diploma, and have the commitment and creativity to become Malaysia’s next future filmmaker.

The ‘I Want to Be a Filmmaker’ programme will feature 10 episodes of one (1) hour each week where the contestants will be assigned to a project and at the end of the episode, their efforts will be reviewed by the panel of jury, including a guest jury. The jury will then eliminate the weakest contestant while the winner of each episode will win an immunity, avoiding them from being eliminated in the next episode.

‘I Want To Be A Filmmaker’ programme is the first collaboration efforts between HyppTV and YTM to provide scholarship opportunities for young talents to achieve their highest potentials in the film making as well as to promote MMU as the preferred education institution for film and innovation with the introduction of the Bachelor of Cinematic Arts programme at its new campus in Nusajaya, Johor. This reality programme at HyppTV represents a significant step forward in contributing towards nation building and human capital development for creative industries in Malaysia.

In the future, Malaysians can expect to see more high quality and innovative programming on HyppTV with to the support extended by TM’s subsidiaries. This includes MMU, which focuses on producing innovative and entrepreneurial graduates for the nation’s creative industries, and YTM, which serves as an enabler of growth by giving access to education and development programmes. The support will help in creating a new generation of content providers seeking to making inroads into the lucrative content creation industry.

‘I Want to Be a Filmmaker’ will premiere on HyppInspirasi HD (HyppTV Channel 111) starting 16 December 2015, every Wednesday at 10.00 pm. The channel is offered as ala-carte at RM9 per month or as part of HyppTV Aneka Pack at RM30 per month. The channel also features a two (2) hours time-shift as well as seven (7) days catch-up functions for your viewing time convenience.

True to its promise of ‘Life Made Easier’, customers who are on the move can watch HyppTV programmes and VOD content on their smart devices via the mobile app HyppTV Everywhere. The mobile app now allows in-app registration via mobile number, email address and Facebook for UniFi, Streamyx customers as well as the public to enjoy HyppTV service.
