Recent award-winning film at the 7th Macau International Movie Festival, 'The Kid From the Big Apple' is set to debut in Japan, at the 11th Osaka Asian Film Festival (OAFF2016) on the 9th and 11th March 2016.

The film is the only Malaysian work selected by the festival's ‘New Action! Southeast Asia’ special screening programme, along with other films from Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Philippines.

Director Jess Teong expressed her excitement in a statement, “I am very excited and honoured to showcase my work in Japan. I believe the film will appeal to everyone, as it shows a ‘human story’ with positive value that touches all cultures.”

Besides Japan, the film will be released in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan in March 2016, as well as Hong Kong in April 2016.

Another Malaysian film that was chosen by the OAFF2016 for the Competition section is ‘Let’s Eat,’ a comedy that tells a story of how a restaurant owner and a head chef put aside their differences to save their once reputable café. The co-produced film by Malaysia’s Asia Tropical Films and Singapore’s Clover Films will also have its international premiere at the festival.
