Several top MSC Malaysia animation powerhouses namely Animasia Studio, Giggle Garage, Inspidea, Lil Critter Workshop, Mirayi, and Vision Animation represented the first Malaysia Pavilion at Kidscreen Summit in Miami from 8th to 11th February 2016, led by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).
As Kidscreen Summit is the world’s leading annual event for kids entertainment, the animation companies aimed to look for Animation Servicing work, co-production partner, licensing of IPs, and international broadcaster to market their latest line up of contents such as Harry & Bunnie (Animasia); Origanimals (Giggle Garage); Kobushi (Inspidea), Megabear (Mirayi) and many more.
Moreover, the summit provided a great platform for animation companies to keep up with the latest industry trends in the creative industry directly from broadcasters, producers, and creative players worldwide. In addition, it offered an opportunity for the key players to identify what works in developing new contents especially in the idea stage as mentioned by Zeno Gabing, Executive Director of Giggle Garage Sdn Bhd.
Edmund Chan, Managing Director of Animasia Studio Sdn Bhd echoed his sentiments, “One of the key benefits we took home at this year's Kidscreen is the clearer indication of contents that we need to produce in our coming slate of shows for 2016/2017. We have met with both linear channels operators and new media platforms that have enabled us to identified separate strategies to approach them differently. We have also achieved our objectives by meeting key partners in different regions to help us grow our content distribution reach."
“MDeC is proud to facilitate our MSC Malaysia animation companies at Kidscreen Summit 2016 by providing the support to access opportunities in the global animation market. This is the first time that we have established a physical presence at the summit by giving our companies a pavilion to promote their creative contents, services and technologies,” said Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, Director of the Creative Multimedia Division of MDeC.
Over the past few years, MDeC together with MSC animation studios have worked hand in hand with major international partners to produce high quality animation for worldwide distribution – one example includes Lil Critter Workshop’s recent partnership with a South Korean animation studio to co-produce a 2D cut-out animation in 2016.
