Munafik, a new supernatural religious horror film marks the grand return for Syamsul Yusof as a director to the film industry after a 3-year hiatus from the silver screen. Today, the Malaysia Film Festival (FFM) 26 Best Director is ready to share his ninth film as he realised that he needs to continue to uphold the local film industry.

“As a human being, we all have our ups and downs, and sometimes it breaks us. Perhaps it is because it was the biggest obstacle that I have experienced in my journey as a director and I was lost,” he commented on his break. “That was in the past, now I strive to produce more outstanding and creative work,” he added.

Munafik is Syamsul’s 9th film and it took 46 days to complete with a budget of almost RM2 million. It tells the story of Adam, a Muslim medical practitioner who is unable to accept his wife’s passing started to experience strange and unsettling occurrences after he agreed to treat a woman named Maria.

Dato’ Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, Chairman of FINAS who was present at the pre-screening yesterday said, “Right now we noticed that the local audiences are more receptive towards local films, and I hope that Munafik will gain the same interest and encourages the audiences to support more local films in the future. On the other hand, FINAS will do our best to continue supporting the film.”

Produced by Skop Productions, Munafik features a great line-up of actors including Nabila Huda, Fizz Fairuz, Pekin Ibrahim, and Datuk Rahim Razali; and it will be officially screened on 25th February 2016.
