Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Viu an Over-the -Top (OTT) video-on-demand (VOD) service from Vuclip, a PCCW media company announced their partnership with the launch of Viu in Malaysia. Viu is a freemium OTT service that brings top quality, latest, localised and personalised content from global top studios to their viewers.

The new OTT service was launched by Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, TM Group CEO and Janice Lee, PCCW Media Group Managing Director, together with Jeremy Kung, Executive Vice President, New Media of TM and Nickhil Jakatdar, Vuclip CEO.

Tan Sri Zamzamzairani commented, “As the nation’s Convergence Champion, we are excited to be a strategic partner of PCCW, through its media company to bring Viu for the first time here in Malaysia – offering an even wider choice of content and entertainment to our broadband customers worldwide.” “We are confident that this partnership will enhance the value of the services that we have provided to our customers in addition to the HyppTV service and we believe that content should be made available everywhere and accessible via multiscreen devices, in line with TM’s brand promise ‘Life Made Easier’,” he added.

Accessible via mobile phones; tablets; and desktops; Viu will deliver more than 10,000 hours of premium Asian content from Korea’s top broadcasters including KBS, MBC, CJ and SBS. In addition, over 3,700 hours of the latest Korean drama and variety series will be subtitled in English after 8 hours of their Korean premiere and in Bahasa Malaysia within 24 hours, as well as in Simplified Chinese to provide a localised experience to the viewers.

Viu’s unique value proposition for consumers continues to be built at the intersection of technology, media and consumer insights. Viu offers Malaysians access to the freshest and hottest content available from top studios from around the world, all localised for the best entertainment experience,” said Nickhil.

TM’s Unifi and Streamyx broadband customers will enjoy thousands of hours of content for free on Viu beginning mid-March 2016, in addition to their existing HyppTV service. As a freemium service, consumers can also subscribe to a premium portion of Viu for an ad free experience, as well as an access to additional premium content for RM 10 per month.
