Film Kingdom Group, Malaysia’s production and distribution company, is set to work with famous Hong Kong film director; actor; producer; and scriptwriter, Ko Chi Sum for its latest romantic-comedy film, tentatively titled Miss Sunshine.

The joint-venture project, which tells the story about single females in their late 30s embarking on a search for their Mister Right resonates well with Ko Chi Sum’s trademark of slapstick comedy with moral teaching, family values, and optimism. Furthermore, it will be shot in Malaysia one-hundred percent, specifically in Penang, among others.

“When we pitched the idea for Miss Sunshine to the director and the Hong Kong team, we specifically asked for the shooting to be done in Malaysia. There are so many beautiful locations in Malaysia, and we feel that by doing this, we are also promoting our country in our own way,” said Jack Calvin, CEO of Film Kingdom Group.

The idea for the romantic-comedy film was pitched by Film Kingdom during their visit to the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market Fair (HK FILMART) last year. Hence, with the success last year, the company will be participating again in the upcoming HK FILMART 2016 in search for further market potential for their movies.

Aaron Koh, producer at Film Kingdom Group reiterated, “Our mission is to bring the Malaysian flag to the world, and it is made easy thanks to our government initiatives such as setting up the Malaysia Pavilion at various trade markets. Moreover, the Film in Malaysia Incentives (FIMI) is a great programme to attract more foreign producers to use Malaysia as film shooting location, subsequently promoting the country on the global scale.”

Last year, Film Kingdom Group’s co-produced movie titled, My Papa Rich has managed to surpass RM2.1 million in box office collection in first week.
