The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) will set up a creative centre in Sabah, Kinabalu Creative Center (KCC) to further boost the creative sector in this country. The KCC will be a one-stop center for various activities related to filming in Sabah and consolidate attractive shooting locations in the state for local and international producers.

FINAS has been in Sabah since 1985, but its role is only focused in matters of enforcement and licensing. Now, with the proposed formation of KCC, the agency will be able to reach out to the local creative industry players, enabling them to pitch their ideas, and impart various funds offered by FINAS similar to the Malaysia Content Pitching Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Dato’ Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, Chairman of FINAS said the idea was proposed to the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman during his visit at Sri Gaya today.

"The Chief Minister is happy with the proposal and ready to help establish KCC as soon as possible, besides finding a strategic location for that purpose," said Dato’ Mohd Khusairi who added that KCC can also enhance the tourism industry in Sabah through the films that are marketed globally.

Also present during the visit were Dato’ Kamil Othman, Director General of FINAS and Datuk Deddy M. Borhan, Sabah and Sarawak Creative Industry Advisor.
