5 unsigned local acts; Ryöt Jones, TMJB, Smack Soul, Daylight Descends and The A Street Band are set to compete in the race of becoming the next best indie rock band in ‘Rock the House’ competition, organised by Live House Kuala Lumpur; a premier live music and comedy hot spot.
Spearheaded by Live House’s own music director, producer and award-winning artiste, Russell Curtis, the battle of the bands started out with 12 local acts competing for a cash prize of RM10,000 and a headline gig at a Time Out musical festival, on top of grabbing a chance to professionally record a single with a reputable music producer.
‘Rock The House’ is created by Russel together with Live House KL to discover the best unsigned bands in the local music scene. Their goal is to bring these bands to light and equip them with the resources they need to break out as artiste. Additionally, what sets the competition apart from the other talent searches is that the top two bands from each round will receive an instant cash prize every week.
“Now that we are down to 5 finalists, I am looking forward to see how these bands deal with the pressure of the competition. It is what usually gets all the creative juices flowing in overdrive. Some will rise to the occasion and some will buckle under the pressure. Either way, I believe we are all in for a heck of a ride,” said Russell Curtis.
The bands will be judged 50 per cent by a panel of industry professionals who will be looking at their musical skills and abilities, creativity of arrangement and performance as well as the ‘X’ factor. The remaining 50 per cent comes from live audience votes.
After 8 weeks of incredible rock performances, the competition will crown the next indie rock band at the Grand Finale on 22nd May 2016 at the Live House Kuala Lumpur.
