ntv7 Golden Awards is set to return as the first open nominations award. For the first time since it was introduced in 2010, the award show will engage the audiences in its nomination process via online nomination.
First introduced in 2010, the Golden Awards has been the platform to recognise and honour the outstanding efforts of the best local talents who have contributed passionately in the Malaysian Chinese TV entertainment industry.
The fourth edition of the award will witness the nominees vying for 37 awards, including a new category; ‘Media's Choice’ and new awards under the Drama and Non-Drama categories such as ‘Best Editing,’ ‘Best Cinematography,’ ‘Best Current Affairs and News Reporting,’ ‘Best Special Programme,’ and ‘Most Popular Drama Character.’
Airin Zainul, Group General Manager of ntv7, 8TV and tonton emphasised, "Golden Awards 2017 will be the first open nominations award and we are excited to try out more engaging approach for the viewers, hence we introduced the new format and concept. What is more exciting to us is that we are going to present 37 awards, which will give a lot more chances and opportunities for people who have put in a lot of effort and passion for the industry.”
Viewers may nominate for 7 Drama categories; Best Drama, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Newcomer and Best Theme Song. Moreover, they can also nominate for 3 Non-Drama categories; Best TV Programme, Best TV Programme Host and Best News Presenter. Open nominations will start from 20th May until 15th August 2016, and viewers can start voting for their favourite nominees on the Golden Awards’ official website.
Each award will have 5 nominess and the dramas eligible for nominations must be aired from 1st October 2013 untul 30th April 2016. The Golden Awards 2017 will take place on 20th May 2017, and it will be screened live on ntv7 and tonton.
