Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia Sdn Bhd (BNSMY) is officially launched, and the studio is partnering with local CGI studio, Lemon Sky Animation to develop a string of Bandai Namco titles for the coming year. The partnership will also act as a launch pad for Lemon Sky to expand its services into a full-fledged game development studio.
Supported by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the newly set up Malaysian studio will also be collaborating with Bandai Namco Singapore Studios (BNSS) to focus on the development of contents for global market. In addition, the local studio will become Bandai Namco’s hub for visual art production in the region, in an effort to strengthen their partnerships with key partners in the neighbouring countries and build a global art production organisation.
“Having a major industry player such as Bandai Namco setting up a studio in Malaysia speaks volumes of our talent pool, games industry and national economy. Our games industry is stronger than ever and we are excited to see what lies ahead. At the same time, we are thrilled to be collaborating with the Japanese game industry to grow this region together. We hope that Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia will play an active role in developing our local games ecosystem towards our national mission in becoming the leading ASEAN games development hub,” said Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, Director of the Creative Content and Technologies Division of MDEC.
Cheng Fei Wong, CEO of Lemon Sky added, "It’s an exciting prospect for our company as we are always looking for ways to raise the bar for Malaysia’s games industry. Bandai Namco Studios is a global powerhouse in game development, and given our position as the biggest game production house in the country, this as a good platform, great opportunity and a strategic move to broaden our market in South East Asia.”
The announcement of the partnership was announced in 2014 where the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) witnessed by MDEC. Since then, Lemon Sky has assisted Bandai Namco on numerous projects involving games art, animation, modeling, concept art including game cinematic, and the studio’s role-playing game, Tales of Zestiria among others.
