Malaysian production house, Global Station in collaboration with the nation's satellite pay TV, Astro launched the trailers for its new drama series, Papa Ricky at MIPCOM, the world's leading entertainment content market in Cannes, France.
Directed by Harris Fadzilah, the series is a drama adaptation from a Chilean telenovela produced and broadcasted by Canal 13. Papa Ricky tells the story of a single father, Riki with his 8-years old daughter, who meets a clumsy professor, Farah - whom he fell in love with. However, his daughter Elly believes Farah does not have what she seeks in a mother.
Datuk Khairul Anwar Salleh, Vice President, Malay Language Business at Astro said, "While we are very well positioned in the entertainment show, we believe that we can grow further in scripted content. Our ratings grew five times with the previous telenovela adaptation, and now we want to continue the trend."
The studios will also be working with a Mexican distributor, Comarex to market the drama series internationally. Previously, Astro, Global Station and Comarex have also worked together for two of Global Station's drama series; Memori Cinta Suraya and Lara Aishah.
Papa Ricky is slated to air in January 2017 on Astro Prima and Maya HD.
