Local emerging filmmaker, Dhaniyah Ridzuan took home two awards; ‘Best Public Service Announcement’ and ‘Young Film Maker’ awards for her public service announcement, GAIA at the 9th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest (KLEFF) Award recently.

The 2-minute PSA, which was originally produced for her ‘Digital and Audio’ subject assignment was inspired from the Greek mythology, ‘Gaia’ which is the Greek's personification of the Earth. Throughout the time, ‘Gaia’ suffers from the selfish and oblivious beings.

"This is really a stepping stone for my team and I, as each of them plays a big role in our success," said the director, who received RM1,000 cash prize, trophies, certificates, hampers and exclusive vouchers for her two awards.

In addition, Malaysian filmmakers Ayu Abdulah and Teresa Krug also received an award at KLEFF 2016 for their PSA titled, Power Down to Power All. The animated PSA garnered the ‘UNDP x JKR Energy Efficiency in Buildings Award’ which awarded them RM3,000 cash prize, among others.

The Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest, which aimed to keep spreading the important environmental messages through films, received 334 film submissions from local and international filmmakers, out of which 249 films were accepted to run for the film competition this year.
