Malaysian actress and singer, SinJe Lee was announced as the official ambassador for the inaugural Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST) and Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA). The announcement was made by the Chairman of the film events, Ms. Joanne Goh at the Content Malaysia Pitching Center yesterday.
Lee known for the Asian hit horror film The Eye produced by the Pang Brothers had led to her winning several awards for Best Actress at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Award, the Hong Kong Film Festival and for the Hong Kong Golden Bauhinia Award. Lee was also awarded the Best Newcomer Award at the Berlin Film Festival in 2001 for the film Betelnut Beauty.
The Kedah-born star expressed her love for the local film industry as many young producers are taking bold steps in developing unique content. Lee further emphasized that these talented producers need to be supported more by the audience and be given more exposure for their work. “All the movies from Malaysia are not the same like other countries. What we produce to the audience has our own culture and expressions.”
Hong Kong actress and singer as well as the event advisor, Ms. Gloria Yip supports the newly appointed ambassador’s view that local producers indeed lack audience support and exposure and believes that MIFFEST and MGGA will be a great platform to encourage and support both local and international producers.
The Malaysia International Film Festival will be held from the 28th of February 2017 to 4th of March 2017 at NU Sentral Shopping Mall, followed by the Malaysia Golden Global Awards, on the 5th of March 2017 at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands.
