Malaysia’s first and largest over-the-top (OTT) service owned by Media Prima Berhad, tonton announced a collaboration with local top YouTuber, JinnyboyTV to produce its first online movie, at the tonton VIP first anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur on 18th April 2017.
Slated for release in late August or early September this year, the movie will highlight and celebrate diversity with a unique Malaysian story, in line with JinnyboyTV’s contents which feature local scenarios and humour.
Speaking of how the project came to be, Loh Ben Jern, General Manager of tonton revealed: “We approached JinnyboyTV as they’re not just one of the top YouTubers in the country, but their contents speak to tonton’s audiences as well. Moreover, they have successfully break through the Australian and Hong Kong markets with their YouTube channel, hence we believe it will help tonton in the long run as we are looking to enter the international markets as well.”
Jin Lim of JinyboyTV commented: “We are honoured to partner with tonton and produce their first online movie. We hope to make something that we all can be proud of and make an unmistakably Malaysian movie, as we believe; when you start from home, home will bring you worldwide.”
JinnyboyTV recently bagged four accolades at the Influence Asia 2017 Award, namely Best Social Media Influencer on YouTube, Best YouTube Personality, The Influencer’s Choice Award, and Influencer of the Year. To-date, their official YouTube channel garnered over 734,000 subscribers from all over the world.
Tonton, which has almost seven million users with 18,000 new members weekly, also boasts a library content of over 29,000 hours of movie, dramas, catch-up, exclusive LIVE events and premium channels with 200 hours added weekly.
