‘The Language Archive’ Garners Double Win at 14th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards

The Malaysian award-winning play, The Language Archive presented by PH7 Production Management Sdn Bhd (PH7 Production), garners double win at the 14th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards held at St. Regis Kuala Lumpur.

Dubbed as celebrating ‘The Best of 2016’ shows, the play bags Best Actor award in a Supporting Role through Sukania Venugopal. Raja Malik was awarded the Best Set Design for theatre category. They were 12 awards competed in total.

Featuring local stage casts such as Gavin Yap, Farah Rani, Anitha Hamid and Datuk Zahim Albakri, the play was staged in October 2016.

“We hope to see the performing arts in Malaysia flourish in terms of quality performances and taken as professional career,” said Ghafir Akbar, the play director.

Written by American playwright, Julia Cho, the play tells the story of George who is an expert at archiving dying languages of the world, struggles to record the words of the rare language from Alta and Resten, whom refuse to speak to each other. Also caught up in this linguistic tangle is George’s assistant Emma, who keeps silent about her love for him while George try to keep his wife beside him.

Commenting on the awards, President of Kakiseni, Low Ngai Yuen said: “The changes made to the awards this year would set new benchmark for sponsorship, improve its quality, and attract the interest of corporate sectors in the effort to promote the arts further.”

Jointly organised by BOH and Kakiseni, the awards night reinvented as a platform for producers to meet potential sponsors keen to invest in local performing art companies. Selected by a panel of award judges from across all performing arts categories, the awards accolade outstanding performances in dance, music, theatre and musical theatre.
