Sasbadi Holdings Berhad (Sasbadi), the nation’s education solutions provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Animasia Studio Sdn Bhd to collaborate on the studio’s Chuck Chicken. The award-winning animated TV series has received global popularity where it has been licensed to broadcast on global networks such as Disney Channel and Nickelodeon as well as major satellite and provincial networks in China.

Law King Hui, Group Managing Director for Sasbadi Holdings Berhad, represented Sasbadi while Edmund Chan, Managing Director for Animasia Studio, represented Animasia Studios in the MoU signing. Meanwhile, Law Yi Chian, Executive Director for Sasbadi Holdings Berhad and Raye Lee, Executive Director for Animasia Studio, witnessed the signing ceremony.

The MoU will enable Sasbadi to produce, publish, distribute, market and sell printed materials and sub-license the publishing rights to any third-party vendors on a worldwide basis as part of the animation’s marketing efforts.

Should the MoU yield positive results, the Chuck Chicken line of books published by Sasbadi will also include Augmented Reality (AR) and games as added value, just like many of the publisher’s existing titles.

Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer for Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, said, “Having two leading brands from different industries coming together like this is proof that the creative content industry is constantly improving from within and throughout all related sectors. This reinforces the fact that creativity will push all to do more, especially when it comes to driving innovation”.

Law King Hui echoed Dato’ Yasmin’s statement by saying, “The 21st century is an era of collaboration, where companies jointly leverage on the strength of their diversities to achieve extraordinary goals. The signing of this MoU is a fitting example of two established intellectual property creators seeking to unleash the full potential of rich-Malaysian made content, a key aspect that is in line with the Government’s Economic Transformation Programme.”

“We are extremely happy and proud to have a well-established publishing company like Sasbadi Holdings Berhad potentially coming on-board as partners. This deal could enable both parties to synergise our resources and maximise our opportunities to develop the best possible Chuck Chicken printed materials, while allowing Animasia Studio to continue providing quality entertainment to kids around the world,” expressed Edmund Chan.

The animation series was poised for further growth as the studio has outlined several plans for the next two years to reinforce the animation’s presence in the entertainment industry. Some of their efforts including collaborative on-ground events, YouTube channel series, merchandises as well as Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) 3D animated feature film for theatrical release in 2019.
