Primeworks Studios and Monsta, a subsidiary brand under Animonsta Studios, collaborated to revive the nostalgic yellow critter unto the silver screens by holding a premiere screening of Pokémon The Movie: I Choose You! at MBO Starling Mall, Damansara Utama on December, 2. This was in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Pokémon.
The tie up marks the second of such between these two studios following the successful BoboiBoy: The Movie which garnered millions and was loved by all Malaysians.
Susumu Fukunaga, Corporate Officer of The Pokémon Company, said, “This is the 20th edition of the Pokémon Movie and a special movie that brings back the story of the first generation with a newer essence to appeal to all audiences ranging from the older group who watched the original series 20 years ago to children now. We hope that everyone, families, friends, and even couples will be able to enjoy this movie.”
Pokémon The Movie: I Choose You! depicts the tale prior to the blossoming of friendship between two unlikely friends, Ash and Pikachu. For eternity, both humans and Pokémon have interacted, befriended and fought alongside each other in tournaments. In the small town of Pallet Town in the Kanto region, a brash 10-year old Ash Ketchum dreams of earning the title of Pokémon Master.
However, he was late to pick up his first Pokémon from the town’s local Professor and he ends up with an unruly Pikachu. As Ash begins to earn Pikachu’s trust on the first day of their journey together, they witness the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh fly overhead and pick up one of its feathers.
This sparks off a journey of finding Ho-Oh again as the duo travel the Kanto region, making new friends Sorrel and Verity on Ash’s journey to becoming a Pokémon Master.
Pokémon The Movie: I Choose You will be showing in cinemas nationwide starting December 7. For more info on the movie, log on to Primeworks Studios’ Facebook page (www.facebook.com/primeworksstudios) or the official Facebook page for Pokémon Malaysia (www.facebook.com/PokemonMalaysia).
