The National Football Awards marked its 13th instalment this year celebrating the outstanding achievement of the Malaysian Super League and Malaysian Premier League for the 2017/18 season. The star of the night is undeniably Safawi Rasid, 21 who bagged 3 awards.
Safawi Rasid, Most Valuable Player of 2017/18
The Malaysian wonderkid who won the Most Promising or Best Young Players in 2016 won again the same title, this time with the league’s 4 times title winner, Johor Darul Ta’zim FC. The move made by Safawi in 2017 from T Team FC to JDT FC was one of the most controversial but to this wonderkid a wise move seeing his talent fully realised in the new team.
“I felt that my transfer was a fruitul one since everyone know that in JDT, they have some of the best facilities and composed of the some of the best players”, said Safawi. Other than the Most Promising Player Awards, he also bagged the Best Midfielder Award and getting crowned the Most Valuable Players (MVP) Award succeeding some of the greats such as Indra Putra Mahayuddin, Safiq Rahim and Norshahrul Idlan Talaha.”

The award night also saw Mehmet Duraković, Perak’s coach win the Best Coach Award after his team defeated Terengganu last October in the 92nd Malaysia Cup. The award night also address the supporters of the game, awarding JDT’s fans as the Best Fans added by JDT winning the Best Website and the Best Social Media.
