In less than a week, A-List celebrity nominees such as, Best Actor in a Leading Role Award, Cheng Rexen in “Schrodinger’s Cat” and Jirayu Tantrakul based on his performance in “Kom Faek (The Lost Art)”; as well as Best Actress in a Supporting Role Award, Kim Nam Joo in “Misty” and Sinjai Plengpanich in “Sri Ayodhaya” will be walking the international prestigious red carpet at the 23rd Asian Television Awards. The auspicious awards will be held in the coming days on January 11th to 13th 2019 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
A total of 42 awards categories are up for grabs as the Asian Television Awards (ATA) aims at recognising excellence in programming, production and performance. An expert panel of 50 judges from across the region were hand-picked based on their expertise. A wide range of broadcasters including free-to-air TV stations, pay-tv platforms, digital streaming services as well as many independent production houses in Asia are drawn to enter the Awards by the hundreds. Other major celebrity nominees that will also be walking down the red carpet includes Maylada Susri and Ananda Everingham from Thailand. There will also be a special performance by the multi-Award winner, Winnie K from Malaysia at the Awards. She has been granted the “Asia Bagus Champion” at a very young age in Singapore and represented Malaysia during the Grand Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
This year, ATA will be hosted by popular singer and host Wallace Ang, former MTV Asia VJs May Wan and Choy Wan together with Adrian Jalaludin who has been in the Malaysian entertainment industry for over a decade, with 10 of those years as a TV Host specializing in sports, travel, talk shows, and children, and Mark Zambrano who is a senior TV News Anchor/Sports Correspondent for Philippines’s GMA News & Public Affairs. The 23rd Asian Television Awards will also be attended by Danchen Yan from China and Larissa Ping from Malaysia. Danchen Yan has always been known for her great performance in “Hutong Days” (2008), “I am Chinese” (2012) and “The Four Cupids” (2010). Meanwhile, the Sarawak Ambassador of Tourism from Kuching, Larissa Ping, will be making her first presence on the red carpet.
ATA is holding their 23rd edition in Kuching, Sarawak in support of “Visit Sarawak 2019” campaign organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports of Sarawak. “The attendance of A-List celebrities and the global attention for this event is a great way to spread the excitement of eco-tourism in Sarawak, also known as the “Green Heaven of Southeast Asia” said Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah, Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister.
