YB Datuk Mohamaddin bin Ketapi, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) officiated the inaugural Races of Malaysia where two championships – the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) presented by OSCARO and the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC), will debut at Sepang International Circuit on December 14 – 15. At the launch of the 2019 Races of Malaysia, Malaysian MotoGP rider, Hafizh Syarin announced that he would be racing in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) as well as the Endurance World Championship (EWC) 8 Hours of Sepang motorcycle race. The two races will be held on consecutive days at Sepang International Circuit (SIC), which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and Hafizh will be the only racer competing in both classes.

The Races of Malaysia event has been included into the calendar of events for Visit Malaysia 2020 under the umbrella of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. “The support from Tourism Malaysia goes a long way in ensuring that Malaysia stands out as the main destination for motorsports in the region,” said Datuk Razlan Razali, Chief Executive Officer of Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

As an initiative to boost the sports tourism industry in Malaysia, and in line with the promotion of Visit Malaysia 2020, Tourism Malaysia has taken the reins to collaborate with SIC to have two of the most exciting races at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) as part of the Visit Malaysia 2020.
Aside from Hafizh, other racers include fellow Malaysians Mitchell Cheah and Douglas Khoo who will be competing in WTCR during the weekend. Hafizh will be joined by other racers from racing classes held under Eurosport Events. Fans will be able to catch all the actions in 2 world championships for the price of one ticket and a total of four races throughout the weekend.
