MALAYSIAN CINEMAS TO REMAIN CLOSED THROUGHOUT ENTIRE APRIL 2020

The Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors (MAFE) has announced that cinemas in Malaysia will be closed for April

The Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors (MAFE) has announced that cinemas in Malaysia will be closed throughout the month of April 2020 since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was extended to 14 April 2020. Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd, Berjaya-GSC Sdn Bhd, TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd, MM2 Screen Management Sdn Bhd (mmCineplexes) and Lotus Five Star Cinemas (M) Sdn Bhd will participate in the extended closure. 

The said closure of cinemas is also in cognizance with the efforts of other film exhibitors across the ASEAN region such as Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Singapore which have closed their cinemas to prevent gatherings in the interest of their citizens’ and customers’ safety. Plus, there are no new movies available from both local and international markets due to the postponement of movies initially scheduled for releases between April and June 2020.

MAFE claims that while they intend to reopen the cinemas as soon as circumstances allow, but believes it is important that they put the nation’s interest, as well as the customers’ and employees’ health and well-being first. This has not been an easy time for film exhibitors, but it is a moment to come together more than ever; Together, we will overcome these challenging times, so let’s stay safe and do our part for Malaysia.
