The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) announced the latest grant for the film industry, known as ‘The Original Film Score’ grant - channeled through the Content Malaysia Pitching Centre, which is an initiative designed to help Malaysian content creators and producers in the creation of good content with good entertainment values and commercially appealing to viewers and the market.

In a move to accelerate the growth of the creative economy, the Malaysian government has been active in introducing numerous grants and incentives to support local content creation projects. The Original Film Score grant was introduced to enhance the creation of local compositions. This creates pathways for composers to imbed their compositions in feature films as scores and theme songs. Local composers now can explore ways to monetize their creative audio content with adequate funding.

Speaking at the Fast Track Southeast Asia 2015 conference, Dato’ Kamil Othman, Director General of FINAS announced, “We have introduced a new grant for original music scoring that will appeal to budding film score composers for film and television. This grant is also set to boost the standards of local composers.”

The initiative was applauded by the creative industry heavyweights as it gives way for local composers to compete globally in creating original scores and soundtracks for film.
