LEGO Group has taken on a new approach to the untold chapter of the Monkey King's 500-year-old story. The animated mini-movie and TV series, LEGO Monkie Kid features eight sets of fun and exciting episodes with a twist on the legendary tale.

The tale begins when an ordinary boy, Monkie Kid, became the chosen one when he found Monkey King's mythical staff. Monkie Kid, together with his brave and loyal friends, goes on a quest to stop the Demon Bull King from taking over the city.

Simon Lucas, Senior Design Director at the LEGO Group, said, "I have been touched and inspired by China's rich history and culture, the passion and pride of the people and the incredible creativity of China. With deepest respect for the Chinese culture and the 500-year-old legend, we have created the next chapter in the story of the Monkey King – The Monkie Kid,"

LEGO Monkie Kid is the first-ever LEGO theme to be inspired by a Chinese legend. The eight action-packed sets are a result of close collaboration with children and parents in China over two years to ensure they are authentic to local culture. Never before has the LEGO Group launched a theme inspired by one culture and with so much attention to local details, values, and traits.

LEGO Monkie Kid will launch worldwide on May 16th on LEGO.com, in LEGO Brand Retail Stores, LEGO Certified Stores and LEGOLAND. Local broadcasting station Media Prima will be airing the Monkie Kid TV animated content on TV3 and ntv7 this year.
