Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, launched the "Buatan Malaysia Campaign" on Shopee as a part of the Kempen Beli Barangan Malaysia (KBBM) initiative, as an effort to promote Malaysian-made products on Shopee Malaysia.

KPDNHEP and Shopee Malaysia expect great results this year following their success from last year, where the average daily order for Malaysian-made products spiked by 330%. The Buatan Malaysia Campaign will run until December 2020 and is offering five times more than last year, consisting of groceries, health & beauty, fashion, household necessities, games, books and hobbies, sports, automotive products, motorcycle accessories, F&B deals and more.

Datuk Alexander emphasized the importance of accelerating Malaysian businesses' digitalization, especially for Micro SMEs, to ensure that the domestic economy does not drop. The Shopee app now has an in-app portal that features the Jalur Gemilang on the homepage, titled "Buy Malaysia," where consumers can access exclusive discounts, cashback, and more.

Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi mentioned, "The ministry is honored to be responsible for executing this campaign, which carries a great significance to many Malaysians. We believe that our renewed collaboration will help drive the nation's economy forward, with ambitious targets to generate increased orders and diversify the pool of 'Buatan Malaysia' products and services."

Ian Ho, Regional Managing Director of Shopee, (represented by Tan Ming Kit, Head of FMCG, Business Development) expressed that, “Even from day one, Shopee has always been about using our technology to bring out a positive change in all communities we operate in. Therefore, to us, this is a call of duty. We understand that the Ministry’s goal is to reduce the country’s reliance on imported goods to bring the domestic economy back on track. To this end, Shopee will go one step further to help bring these made in Malaysia and Halal products to the export market by first making them available in Shopee Singapore as well.”
