The Covid-19 pandemic has brought upon severe impacts on service and business industries on a global scale, and the tourism industry is undeniably one of the most affected. At least 3 hotels in Selangor has ceased operations while some others have chosen to put their operations on hold. Only 40% of occupancy rates are expected by the remaining hotels that will have to brace operating without profits until the end of the year.

The Selangor State Government responded to the matter by offered RM2 million worth of tourism vouchers and incentives towards hotels, theme parks, homestays, and more as an effort to rebuild the tourism industry. These subsidies were part of Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, Menteri Besar Selangor's announcement on the State’s 2020 Economic Recovery Plan with a massive tag amounting RM 55.85 billion. The Third Phase to the Economic Package includes three major components; food security, economic sustainability, and capacity building, that are aimed to mitigate the challenges caused by the pandemic.
