AirAsia Group CEO, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, announced that AirAsia will be venturing into a digital platform to expand its businesses through a new application called AirAsia Digital, as another revenue stream for the AirAsia Group since its aviation segment has taken a huge toll from the pandemic.

“We always had the idea that we did not want to rely on one source of income. As you see digital companies have benefited from Covid-19 while airlines such as ours have suffered dramatically,” said Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.

The “Super App” would be an all-in-one platform that covers cashless payments, food delivery, entertainment, and travel. The AirAsia Digital app will offer features such as logistics services, a virtual bank and marketplace (BIGLIFE), an e-wallet platform (BigPay), food delivery services from its F&B franchise (Santan), and much more.
Tan Sri Tony Fernandes mentioned that it has always been AirAsia’s goal of developing a super app to compete with other established brands such as Grab in South-east Asia. He claims that his digital platform will not be limited to apps or initiatives under AirAsia, but it will be open to all apps that offer great value to the users of AirAsia Digital.
