The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) has initiated the 'Love Touches Lives' charity project which will run from 14th August to 30th September 2020 to aid single mothers in Malaysia who have taken a hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MRCA started this initiative to soften the blow that this pandemic has left on single mothers as many have lost their jobs during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and must continue to support and fend for their children on their own. A survey conducted by Selangor's Women Empowerment Institute saw a majority of single mothers earning less than RM3,000 a month; at least 40% of them were forced to either take unpaid leave or close their businesses during the MCO. Raising children is not easy, even more so to do it alone while struggling to put food on the table and maintain the roof over their heads. The 'Love Touches Lives' charity project will be of help to single mothers regardless of race, ethnicity, and religion.
MRCA has done numerous philanthropy projects in the past, this time around it is targeting single mothers in need of support during these trying times. Since the establishment of the MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation in 2010, many charity bodies have benefitted from its donations and in the past five years, the Foundation has contributed over RM1 million to many charitable causes.

Through this project, MRCA aims to raise RM100,000. Interested parties can donate a minimum of RM100, a higher donation will enable MRCA to do more to help single mothers. Donations received will be diligently managed by MRCA, and donors can contribute through the website (https://bit.ly/32YeRBp).
Single mothers from six meticulously and carefully identified single mothers' organizations (listed below) are to be the beneficiaries of this project.

"We feel that it is our social responsibility as an association to give back to society. MRCA hopes to continuously provide support and aid to the underprivileged in our nation. Through the 'Love Touches Lives' charity project, MRCA hopes to also rekindle the spirit of charity in the hearts of Malaysians as it serves as a platform for them to donate for a good cause," said Shirley Tay, MRCA President and Organising Chairperson of this project.
MRCA's Women Empowerment initiative
Today also marks a significant day for the MRCA as we launch the Women’s Division that is headed by Dato’ Winnie Lim (MRCA Treasurer General). In line with its tagline, Empower Women, Build Nation, this division aims to promote and advance the personal and professional development of women in the MRCA. It also looks to equip female entrepreneurs with knowledge of the right skills, information, and training to expand and develop their businesses.
