FFM27 Honours Lelaki Harapan Dunia as Best Film

Lelaki Harapan Dunia won Best Film and four other awards namely Best Original Film, Best Director, Best Child Actor and Best Art Feature at the 27th Malaysia Film Festival (FFM), held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The film had garnered 13 out of 24 nominations at this year’s FFM and Liew Seng Tat who won the award for Best Director for the film could not be happier and proud of his film.

“For me, you have to believe in the story from the very beginning, and then everything else from the actors to the production will come together. Hence, I am very happy with the film in many aspects – the acting, the visual, the score, and the positive reception not just in Malaysia but around the world. As of now, the movie will be broadcasted in Bangkok, Romania and few other countries” said the young filmmaker.

The comedic film follows Pak Awang as he finds an abandoned house in the jungle and decides to give it to his daughter as a wedding present. He enlisted the help of the villagers to help him carry the house into the village, unknowingly carrying along an immigrant hiding inside it. Misunderstandings arise when he spots the figure inside and mistakes him as one of the ghosts from the Malay myths.

It is produced by Sharon Gan and it was a co-production project between Everything Films Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia) and Volya Films (The Netherlands), Flying Moon Filmproduktion (Germany) and Mandra Films (France).
