Malaysian production studio, More Entertainment bagged a cash prize of HKD100,000 apart from landing a development contract with Fox, for their upcoming film Brothers as it was announced the winner for HAF/Fox Chinese Film Development Award at the Hong Kong FILMART 2016.
Inspired by a real incident, Brothers tells the story of a mentally disabled kid who was kidnapped by his own sibling who has been missing for years. The film explores the different perspectives of society as its main theme.
"Although the story revolves around the kidnapping, the theme that we are trying to convey to the audience is truth and misjudgment; a theme that happens a lot in society nowadays. We hope that Brothers will be able to inspire our audience to look into things first before jumping into conclusions," said Roland Lee, Producer of Brothers.
The drama that defeated two other finalists; Hong Kong film Coarse Tea, Plain Rice by Ceung Suk-yee and Man-Made Citizen directed by Li Yang, will be directed by Jong Yu, a well-known director of music videos, visual advertisements and TV drama series in Taiwan.
"We hope the film will start with production by the end of this year. As of now, we are planning to shoot the film in Malaysia. However, we may need to discuss this with Fox as we are now under contract with them," Lee continued.
Jin Ong, Founder of More Entertainmet also voiced out his confidence in the film, "We hope that our local film lovers will anticipate this film. The script was written by the same scriptwriter who wrote Malaysia’s box offices such as Ola Bola and The Journey, so I am confident that Brothers will be a good film."
The HAF/Fox Chinese Film Development Award was established in 2012 and is a collaboration between Fox International Productions (Greater China) and the Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum. The Award aims to nurture promising Chinese projects that shows regional appeal.
