Jagat Wins Big at the Kuala Lumpur Critics' Choice Award 2016

Shanjhey Kumar Perumal’s critically-acclaimed film, Jagat won five out of eight categories in the Kuala Lumpur Critics' Choice Award 2016 (Anugerah Majlis Pengkritik Filem Kuala Lumpur 2016) including the coveted Best Film category.

The crime-drama film also bagged the Best Director (Shanjhey Kumar Perumal), Best Actor (Harvind Raj), Best Cinematography (Senthil Kumaran Muniandy), and Best Screenplay (Shanjey Kumar Perumal) awards.

To-date, Jagat has garnered seven local awards including the Best Malaysian Film and Best Director at this year’s 28th Malaysia Film Festival (FFM 28). Shanjhey’s directorial debut also became the first local Tamil film that was selected to screen at the New York Asia Film Festival 2016.

Other awards went to Nadiya Nisaa' (Best Actress, Love, Supermoon), Bront Palarae (Best Actor, Ola Bola), and Nabila Huda (Best Supporting Actress, Munafik).

The unofficial awards organisation, led by film writer and critic Fadli Al-Akiti was established in 2011 by a group of local film critics in various fields. The nominees are shortlisted from at least 61 local films that were screened from September 2015 to August 2016.
