Malaysian first live-action animated film, Upin & Ipin Jeng, Jeng, Jeng!; a collaboration between two local studio giants, Les’ Copaque Production and KRU Studios aims to raise the country’s film industry with extraordinary quality in production.
The film, which was launched by Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi marks Les’ Copaque's second film featuring the popular characters, the first being Geng: The Adventure Begins in 2009 which garnered over RM6 million in Malaysia.
Directed by Erma Fatima and Hajah Ainon Ariff, Upin & Ipin Jeng, Jeng, Jeng! tells the story of Balqis, a 10-year old girl who is trying to save her orphanage from a heartless businessman with the help of her favorite animation characters, Upin and Ipin.
"Local animation films have great potential, and the government expects that the local animation sector will be widely recognised by the international community by 2050," said the Deputy Prime Minister, who also urged local creative players to challenge themselves in order to penetrate the global market.
Last year, the local animation industry recorded a positive growth with an export value of RM101 million, while the value of domestic sales reached RM127 million.
Upin & Ipin Jeng, Jeng, Jeng! is set to screen at local cinemas on 24th November 2016, followed by Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei.
