Siti Nurhaliza’s ‘Cindai’ Nominated for Best OST Category at Indonesian Box Office Movie Awards

Award-winning song ‘Cindai’ by the Malaysian songstress, Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza is nominated for the Best Original Soundtrack (OST) Film category at the upcoming Indonesian Box Office Movie Awards 2017.

Selected as the original soundtrack for 2016 Indonesian-Malaysian comedy film, My Stupid Boss, directed by Upi Avianto and local actor-screenplay writer, Farid Kamil, it is the only Malaysian song to be nominated at the award.

Organised by Surya Citra Televisi (SCTV), the annual film industry event aims to recognise the efforts of Indonesian filmmakers and producers. Furthermore, the award aims to foster industry growth so as to keep encouraging locally produced box office films.

Edwin Tan, CEO of Suria Records expressed his surprise that the 20 year old song was nominated and is very proud to represent Malaysia at the award.

The song was released in 1997 by Suria Records, from the same titled third album of Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza as part of her attempt on pop ethnic genre.

‘Cindai’ is a malay traditional song produced by the famed composer and lyric writer, Datuk Suhaimi Mohd Zain or Pak Ngah, and the lyrics written by Hairul Anuar Harun. The song tells of one’s frustration living life despite many obstacles.

For the last 20 years, ‘Cindai’ has received many accolades – Best Irama Malaysia & Ethnic Creative Song (1998), Anugerah Juara Lagu (1998), AJL Best Viewer’s Song (2005), and Music Authors’ Copyright Protection (MACP) Award Top 90’s Favourite (2007).

The Indonesian Box Office Movie Awards will be held on 29th March 2017.
