The Malaysian International Film Festival (MIFF) Short Film Competition is finally here and local independent filmmakers as well as budding filmmakers now have the opportunity to showcase their talents via this international platform.

This time around there will be a new “Public Award” category where the audiences’ have a say in the verdict via an online voting system. The organiser will announce the Top 10 short films which have been nominated by the juries and the public will then get a chance to vote for their favourite films from the list – this holds 30 percent of the overall score.

For its 2018 edition, the short film competition will be themed “Humanity: Hope & Despair.” Humanity is said to possess two different faces which is Hope, a feeling of expectation and desire for something to materialize, and Despair, the feeling that life is without hope.

The competition aims to educate, inspire and motivate the younger generation on the values of humanity through films while simultaneously inspiring filmmakers to paint their own definition of humanity in their films.

Both the grand winner and the winner of Public Award will be announced on January 15, 2018 and the winners will be walking away with RM 2,000 cash, film screening movie pass to MIFFest along with a pair of VIP MGGA tickets worth RM 1,000. That’s not all – the winning films will be screened during the 2nd Malaysia International Film Festival opening ceremony.

Submissions are now open online at www.mgga.com.my up till November 3, 2017 and all short film entries should be no longer than 20 minutes.
