World Premiere of Lee Chong Wei Movie Sets to Break Asia and Malaysia Book of Records

Fans of badminton and Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei are set to witness the first and only screening of the 133-minute Director’s Extended version of the Lee Chong Wei movie on March 9, 2018 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium Kuala Lumpur Sports City. A massive 20,000 crowd is expected at the premiere, where the film will be shown on a custom made, massive 40 metre x 17 metre LED screen and is set to make its way into Asia Book of Records and The Malaysia Book of Records as the largest movie screening in Malaysia. The extended version will not be shown in cinemas, so fans are in for a treat.

Directed by Teng Bee, the self -titled biopic follows Lee’s journey from his younger days, all the way to him becoming the World Champion badminton player. The film took a total of three years to produce, including 50 days of filming with an initial estimated budget of RM6mil. The filmmakers also went through 5,000 shuttlecocks during production, and over 2000 aspiring Lee Chong Weis showed up for the audition for the leading role.

Prior to the start of the movie premiere screening, audience will witness a 100-metre Red Carpet Walk, welcoming legendary badminton players which includes the members of the Thomas Cup 1992 winning team as well as cast members from the movie. A carnival with music performances will also be held at the screening.

Tickets to the event are priced at RM88, RM108, RM128 and RM168 and available at Tickets with cash and credit card purchases can be made at Axiata Arena KL Sports City Bukit Jalil from February 1, 2018 onwards.

Each ticket comes with one Lee Chong Wei movie T-shirt (valued at RM59), one GSC movie ticket to watch the shorter version of Lee Chong Wei movie, one limited edition movie poster pre-autographed by Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei as well as the cast of the movie and one movie bag. These will be distributed at venue on the event day with proof of ticket.
