Single mother and Economics graduate, Priya Pandian successfully nabbed the coveted title of Mrs India Worldwide Malaysia at the recent Miss and Mrs India Worldwide Malaysia 2018. The prestigious beauty pageant was held at De’Royale Ballroom, Shah Alam.
When asked on the hardest part of her pageantry journey, the beauty queen described the struggle she faced juggling between work, parenting and the competition. She had to sacrifice some time with her daughter due to this competition, yet the end justifies the mean. Priya believed that she is now an idol for her daughter.
A true beauty inside out, Priya’s main drive to participate in this beauty pageant is to create awareness on social issues such as child sexual abuse and anti-bullying. Being a single mother, she hoped to be an inspiration to not only her daughter, but to all single mothers.
She exclaimed, “I would like to be a living proof to her (Priya’s daughter) and to all the single mothers out there that a woman can be independent and still stand strong without a support of a man. There is nothing that a woman can’t handle!”
The 39-year old feminist felt that as a title holder, it is her responsibility to represent not only Malaysian Indian woman but Malaysian women in general regardless of their race. She personally felt that contrary to popular belief, beauty pageant is not about beauty alone. It is a platform in helping to empower women and mould them to be a better person.
“Most importantly, as a title holder, our voices will be heard, thus we can use our voices to create awareness in many causes and social issues,” she reiterated.
While Priya successfully nabbed the crown, first runner up went to Mynyca Sehnjeev and second runner up to Gaithri Chevan. Meanwhile, Amrit Kaur Dhillon took home the Miss India Worldwide Malaysia title. Both Priya and Amrit will be representing Malaysia at the Miss and Mrs India Worldwide pageant.
